Sandusky Vending Machine Locator
Sandusky Ohio is the county seat of Erie County. It has about 26,000 residents, though the metropolitan area is pegged at around 78,000. It is strategically located for traffic, sitting halfway between Toledo and Cleveland along the shores of Lake Erie in north Ohio.
Why do I mention the location is well placed for traffic ? Because of Cedar Point - one of the top amusement parks in the Great Lakes area. It has been around for years - I remember going there as a boy. And Cedar Point has made a lot of improvements over the years. They have the world's second tallest roller coaster ride. They have a nice beach to relax on. And there is plenty of amusement for folks like me that just are not up to taking those sharp turns or death drops that are so popular with the kids.
Most of the traffic to Sandusky comes from Interstate 80-90 which goes east-west. Chicago and Toledo are to the west, Cleveland and Akron and Pittsburgh are to the east. Toledo and Michigan visitors often take Route 2 over. It is more scenic, following the Lake Erie shore - and just as fast as I-80 on most days.
Port Clinton
Another great area! I first visited Port Clinton back in the 1980s. I was working on a client there, and was impressed with the nice summer climate and the beauty of nearby Sandusky Bay. Every day I was there I could find a nice restaurant. This kind of surprised me, because I had thought of Port Clinton as just a teeny town. But their exposure to tourism had resulted in Port Clinton having some nice shops and restaurants.
Port Clinton is on the north side of Sandusky Bay and south of Lake Erie. Sandusky is on the south side of Sandusky Bay. Port Clinton is in a great location to accomodate the Put-In-Bay vacationers as well. Put-In-Bay is an island mini-resort just off the Ohio coast. Their are several daily excursions by boat to and from. And last I knew, there were also airplane trips there.
Put-In-Bay has a memorable place in American history, too. During the War of 1812, it is where Oliver Hazard Perry sailed from to meet the British in the Battle of Lake Erie. Sound familiar ? Remember the quote - "We have met the enemy, and he is ours." ? THAT was the Battle of Lake Erie. The Americans won, enabling Detroit to be recaptured. And the British were pretty much kicked out of the Great Lakes for the rest of the war. I know this story a little, because a buddy of mine from Michigan is a distant relative of Perry - and he told me the story his dad passed down to him.
Vending Machine Locations
All along Route 2 there is a lot of traffic every day. Davis Bessie, the nuclear plant is along the Lake Erie shore. Its many workers travel Route 2 along with the tourists. The types of vending machines that work here coincide with their everyday needs. Toiletries, soda machines, quick lunches, sandwiches, newspapers, hot coffee, popcorn - designed for workers and travellers who forget things or want a quick snack. No internet stations or upper scale products - just down to earth basic vending machine offerings.
Being as close to the Lake as it is, winter sometimes hurts vending machine sales. Not as many folks brave the roads. Workers brownbag it. Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay are not attracting any customers. So the Sandusky area of Ohio can be pretty seasonal for a vending machine route operator. Locations you find can be profitable - both generally April through October. As such, Sandusky is not good for a lot of vendors. But for a vending machine operator who only wants to work in the warmer seasons to supplement another job, or to just work part of the year - Sandusky can be ideal.
Sanduskyand Sandusky South
Along with some little spots such as Willmer and Bogart - Sandusky and Sandusky South can be extremely lucrative for a vending machine operation. Along the roads in the summer the traffic getting to Cedar Point is often stop-and-go. That means lots of potty breaks for the kids, gasoline stops to fill up for the night return home and picking up some cold beverages. And these stops mean opportunities for vending machine sales. Pick the right location - you are in the money. Select the right products to sell - in the right location - and you can rake in the dough.
