Michigan MI Vending Machine Locator
Overall the feedback I get from vending owners in metro Detroit is the further you get north of 13 Mile, the slower the sales. This includes Romeo, Washington Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills, Clarkston and Auburn Hills.
The exception to this is Coke and Pepsi machines. You can't lose with soda machines. They work everywhere! Plus they vend more than snacks. Bottled water, energy drinks and juices are hot. Two new machines that do well are Pepsi's Aquafina machine and Coke's Energy Drink machine.
A factor on which suburb you want to get started in will depend on the type of vending machines you have. If you haven't bought your equipment yet, give me a call for some good, practical advice on what type of vending machines work best in the different areas of Southeast Michigan.
Now, let's talk about the rest of the state:
Areas to avoid:
Pontiac
Up North, with the exception of Big Rapids and Ludington.
Benton Harbor
Holland
Why? This is what I've heard from vendors who do business throughout the state. They have found it hard to find profitable spots in these areas. It's always best to learn from other's experiences.
Pontiac is a dead area for vending. And it has been for awhile. Plus those who had machines there experienced too much damage to their machines. Whereas, up north is dead also - but that's for economic reasons only. Ten, twenty years ago this was a hot area. But money is tight there now, worse than elsewhere in the state. Businesses are struggling to stay open.
Benton Harbor has had a bad reputation in vending for a long time. The only type of machine that have been consistently profitable are Coke and Pepsi soda machines.
And Holland? That's always been a tough area for vendors. If you live in Holland, consider setting up your route in Grand Rapids. It'll be worth the drive.
Good areas:
Jackson - The city with the best reputation outside of southeast Michigan is Jackson. It attracts a lot of tourists, especially in the summertime. The Irish Hills, with numerous lakes and attractions is just down the road. It benefits from its location along I-94 and US-127 and still has an above average economy (by Michigan standards). The nearby cities of Adrian, Hillsdale and Tecumseh, however, have been especially hard-hit by the economic downturn and should be looked at carefully.
