Northwest D.C
As you know, Northwest DC is diverse.
The downtown area is difficult for new vendors as many businesses want references. Sometimes they place a value to your having a reputation. Although this is not always true. Also many of these businesses require service personnel by the vendor as they expect any service requests to be handled promptly.
A problem for new vendors is they often need to service their equipment nights and/or weekends. As they have a full time job. But you need to be downtown to be successful.
The upper northwest corridor is an area with opportunities for new vending machine owners. Primarily that is near Wisconsin and Connecticut Avenues.
The Georgia Avenue corridor, over to 16th Street and north to a MD line is a great area for new vendors. Most businesses are open 7 days a week and there is the growing Latino population centered here.
Lower NW is a diverse area and also good for new vendors. However, I would not recommend locating claws or cranes in this area.
Southwest D.C.
Southwest DC is totally different from NW DC. Probably the best money makers here are Coke and Pepsi machines. Bulk also.
Southwest DC is the southwestern quadrant of D.C. It is located south of the National Mall and west of South Capitol Street. It is the smallest quadrant of the city. Southwest is small enough that it is frequently referred to as a neighborhood in and of itself. However, it actually contains about three separate neighborhoods.
Overall it's my opinion you'd be better off starting in NW DC. Then follow up in SW after you're established.
Northeast D.C.
Northeast DC is a good area for new vendors. There's a lot of small industries and retail stores where a new vending machine company can make a presence.
Northeast DC is the northeastern quadrant of the city, located north of East Capitol Street and east of North Capital Street. Northeast neighborhoods include Fort Lincoln, Woodridge, Brentwood, Stanton Park and a lot of the Capitol Hill area.
The Brookland neighborhood includes Catholic University and Trinity University as well as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Other important sites in the quadrant include the U.S. National Arboretum and the ruins of several Civil War-era forts and Gallaudet University.
It is accessible via four lines of the Washington Metro system. Union Station the Greyhound Bus Terminal bring in people via Amtrak, Greyhound, Trailways, the MARC and commuter rail systems.
Some vendors are leery of placing their vending machines in NE DC. And that's understandable because of the crime rate in certain sections. But there are a lot of safe, money making areas in NE that are available because of other vendor's refusal to do.business in this area.
One area I like is along Benning Road.
I honestly feel safe working and being in NE DC. For vendors who come to this part of DC, they can make a good income.
